You Are Not Your Own
Greetings in the name of Jesus! This is Rob Haymes. This is 15 Minutes With Jesus. Wherever two or three are gathered together in my name, Jesus said, there am I in the midst of them. To those of you who love Him in truth: mercy unto you and peace and love be multiplied.
Thank you Father; we thank you for this day; thank you for this program Father, in Jesus’ name. I ask you to open our hearts; open our ears; open our minds, to receive what you are saying by your Holy Spirit out of your Word this day, in the name of Jesus, Amen Father. Today’s program is called, You Are Not Your Own.
You are a slave! Every single human being is a slave. You are not your own. Do you not know that to whom you yield yourself a slave to obey, his slave you are to whom you obey, whether of sin, leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness. Rom 6:17, But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
You are dead! You are either dead in sins, or you are dead in Christ: dead to sin, and your life is hidden with God in Christ. When Christ, who is your life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with Him in glory. You are not your own. If you are continuing in sin, you are a slave of sin; you are dead in sins. We were all dead in sins until Christ laid down His life for us upon the Cross at Calvary and shed His Blood. He died for our sins. He came to set us free from them by the sacrifice of Himself. He knew no sin, though He was tempted in every way. God made Him who knew no sin to become sin upon the Cross, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him; notice: in Him.
When you hear of His love and sacrifice for you, and you believe on Him: that God raised Him from the dead; that He was crucified for your sins, and raised again for your justification; when you repent and believe on Him, confessing your sins; when you receive Him and confess Him as your Lord; notice: Lord, all the work of the Cross is applied to you, and He comes to dwell in your heart by faith: you become a son or daughter of God, born from above. You are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. Gal 4:6, And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!"
You also must be baptized in water for the remission of your sins. You must die with Him. Let’s turn to Rom 6:3, Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Still, you are not your own! You are a slave of God. You must then be baptized in the Holy Spirit, that He may lead you every day, denying yourself; yielding to Him; taking up your cross and following Jesus to do His will; the Father’s will, not your own. You are not your own! You are a slave of God! If you don’t want to do His will, but you want to do your own will, then you may fall into rebellion. Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. If you are in rebellion, you are still not your own; you are a slave of sin; a slave of the devil. And if you refuse to repent and turn back to God, you will die in your sins.
Let’s turn to 1 John 3:1, Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. Whoever abides in Him does not sin, (does not practice sin). Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins, (practices sin), is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. That’s talking about willfully practicing sin. If you sin you must repent and be cleansed in order to continue with Jesus. When you do, you are forgiven, and you are cleansed by His precious Blood, and you walk on with Him in obedience, and with a clear conscience.
Let’s turn to John 8:31, Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, If you abide in My Word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered Him, We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, You will be made free? Jesus answered them, Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. Rom 6:20, For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. You are free from sin in Jesus as you continue with Him in obedience, keeping His Words. He is your Master and you are His slave; you are bought with a price; you are not your own. Consider the price!: the precious, sinless Blood of Jesus which He willingly shed to pay your ransom for your redemption from sin and the power of the devil. Jesus came to the slave market, and He paid a price for you; He bought you and you became His. You are not your own. He is your Lord and Master. Jesus said, My sheep hear My voice and they follow Me. Do you hear His voice? Do you follow Him?
Titus 1:15, To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled. They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work. Titus 2:11, For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. 1 John 3:3, And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. The Apostle Peter said, …purify your souls by obeying the truth through the Spirit… God’s Word is the truth: yielding to the Spirit to obey the Word of God. Only those who love God will do this. It takes work; it takes dedication to Him. If you love yourself, you will be happy to accept and embrace the false doctrines that teach you it’s all done for you; you are covered; you can live after the flesh and go to Heaven. No, the Scripture says, If you live after the flesh you will die, (Rom 8:13), but if you put to death the deeds of the body through the Holy Spirit, you will live. That’s how it’s done: you purify yourselves by obeying the truth through the Spirit. It takes work: you have to seek after God. If you seek after righteousness you shall be filled. If you don’t love Him, you won’t do it. 1 Cor 6:19, Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.
